Colon Hydrotherapy Myths and Misconceptions

Darlene Holloway, understandably proud of her designation as International Colon Therapist of the Year by the International Association of Colon Hydrotherapy, agrees there are many misconceptions about efforts to keep colons as clean and well-functioning as possible.

“Perhaps the most common misconception is that there is a lot of discomfort with the colon hydrotherapy,” she says. “There simply should not be any discomfort with a colonic. The colon is four layers of muscles. And just like any muscle, it functions by contracting and relaxing. That’s the normal process. A Colonic Can Ease Discomfort

The lower abdomen is a busy place, home to a host of critically important organ systems: kidneys, gallbladder, the liver, the spleen, pancreas, uterus, ovaries, plus five to six feet of colon and the small intestines.

“When there is pain in the lower abdomen, many practitioners recommend a colonic for their patients, as a way to reduce pressure on organ systems,” says Darlene Holloway, founder and principal at the Alternative Health Center of Cary. “A colonic may not cure the problem, but it very often provides a high measure of relief.

High-Tech and Ancient Healing Practices

When she came to North Carolina from Florida in 1992, Darlene Holloway brought along her license in colon hydrotherapy (Florida is the only state that requires this licensing), certification by the National Board for Colon Hydrotherapy, and her experience over a dozen years of diversified work as a certified natural health care practitioner.

Specialties of the Center include colon hydrotherapy (of course), and Quantum biofeedback, candling, ion detoxification, structural integration, reflexology, and a variety of important massage therapies.

Colon and Other Therapies Before and After Surgery

Darlene Holloway, of the Alternative Health Center of Cary—recently named Colon Therapist of the Year by the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy—frequently offers support services to her patients both before and after surgery.

“I know from nearly 30 years of experience that a client’s attitude about surgery—their mindset—has a profound impact on outcomes,” she says. “So I encourage my clients to gather information and connect with internal resources in a way that will truly serve their interests. Some people need a lot of information— from their surgeon, from nurses, and from others who are knowledgeable—so they can fully prepare themselves, mentally, physically, and emotionally, for the coming journey. If a client lacks confidence or a sense of comfort with a member of the surgical team, that’s an issue that needs to be addressed.
