Therapies Help Patient Strengthen Immune System

In three decades as a gifted healer, Darlene Holloway, founder of the Alternative Health Center of Cary, has acquired a mental catalog of dozens of memorable patients. She is best known as a master of colonic irrigation and her detoxification therapeutic skills embrace a range of other modalities. Recently, she was named Colon Therapist of the Year by the International Association of Colon Therapists.

“It’s true that a countless number of memorable clients and patients come readily to mind, and recently, for example, a woman I’ll call Susan came to us with an amazing range of sensitivities that required her to wear a mask constantly to limit her contact with triggers.

Susan’s health problems had gotten more severe over a two-year period. “I’m not a diagnostician,” Ms. Holloway emphasizes. “Colonics is an elimination process. When we see clients such as Susan, we don’t look for a diagnosis. Rather we begin a process of careful, thoughtful elimination, and what is left in place as health returns represent important, individualized guidelines for healthy living.”

With a motivated and compliant client, Ms. Holloway began a comprehensive cleansing program that began with ion cleanse detoxification, coupled with dietary modifications. “The ion cleanse purifies the body efficiently and faster than any herbal fasting program, with little or no stress to the patient,” notes Ms. Holloway. Soon Susan was ready to begin a series of colonics—a safe, effective way of cleansing the colon of waste material by repeated, gentle flushing with water.

“When the colon is congested with stagnant wastes,” says Ms. Holloway, “toxins can back up into the system and pollute the inner environment. Susan gave every indication that her entire system was suffering from toxic pollution. Poisons in the colon can re-enter and circulate in the bloodstream, making us feel ill, tired, or weak. Impacted materials impair the colon’s ability to assimilate minerals and vitamins. And a buildup of material on the colon wall can inhibit muscular action causing sluggish bowel movements and constipation.”

Another critically important part of Susan’s health reclamation plan was lymphatic detoxification. “The lymphatic system is a circulatory system in our bodies that is often overlooked,” says Ms. Holloway. “It is comprised of lymph fluid, lymphatic vessels, and its own pumping system. On one hand, blood delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells. The lymph system has another job: removing waste products and dealing with infections.

“When the lymphatic system is working well, wastes are removed from the cells and infections are dealt with quickly and efficiently, often without the patient even knowing they were exposed to an infection. But when the system isn’t working well, wastes build up, toxins accumulate and infections become chronic. Fatigue, depression, and ill health are the result.”

Lymphatic drainage—an intensive form of massage—proved especially helpful for Susan. “Within three months of this varied but integrated treatment program, Susan was able to pull her mask down and be comfortable in clean environments,” Ms. Holloway is pleased to report. “She began to absorb her foods properly in her small intestine as we continued to support her through careful diet and supplementation. Now, Susan is mask-free and doing fantastically. She comes in now once a month for preventive care.”
