High-Tech and Ancient Healing Practices

When she came to North Carolina from Florida in 1992, Darlene Holloway brought along her license in colon hydrotherapy (Florida is the only state that requires this licensing), certification by the National Board for Colon Hydrotherapy, and her experience over a dozen years of diversified work as a certified natural health care practitioner.

In Cary, in her Alternative Health Center, she has built a cohesive and coherent approach to natural healing that frequently serves the health needs of patients in tandem with traditional allopathic practitioners.

Specialties of the Center include colon hydrotherapy (of course), and Quantum biofeedback, candling, ion detoxification, structural integration, reflexology, and a variety of important massage therapies.

In her third decade as a practitioner, Ms. Holloway’s passion for education and natural healing is unabated. Now she is serving as president of the newly formed North Carolina Colon Hydrotherapy Safety Association, dedicated to “promoting and raising the educational standards for this practice and . . . promoting licensure in the State of North Carolina to regulate this therapy.”

For all of her healing gifts, it’s safe to say that colon hydrotherapy remains for her among the most powerful of healing modalities.

“Good health is as much a function of our elimination status as the quality of the food we eat,” she says. “It’s a stunning fact that we spend $400 million dollars each year in this country on laxatives—and at the same time, 140,000 Americans are diagnosed with colon cancer each year and nearly half that number will die from the affliction.

“Periodic cleansing of the colon, properly and professionally done, prevents stagnation and minimizes exposure to potential cancer-causing agents to the colon wall. Colon hydrotherapy has a dissolving and therapeutic effect on the large intestine resulting in the removal of waste material such as feces, gas, mucus, and toxic compounds.

The result is a cleaner, healthier colon and an improved overall health status.

“For the uninitiated, it’s important to remember that colon hydrotherapy is the safe, gentle infusion of warm filtered water into the rectum using no chemicals or drugs. It is a restorative procedure that is relaxing and effective—extending beyond the rectum to cleanse the entire large intestine.”

Among complementary natural health therapies offered at the Center:

Quantum biofeedback employs a medical device designed to help people relax and re-educate their muscles in order to reduce hypertension, stress, and pain.

“Stress is a major health issue for most of us, and research makes it clear that biofeedback-induced relaxation reduces stress and stress-related symptoms,” Ms. Holloway notes.

Ear Candling is an ancient healing art with roots in China, India, Tibet, Egypt, and the Maya, Aztec, and American Indian cultures. The modern version is often used successfully in treating Candida and removing wax build-up in the ear.

“Candida can cause a mold/yeast allergy which in turn causes itching inside the ear,” Ms. Holloway explains. “Parasites can also cause many problems if allowed to grow in the ear. ‘Swimmer’s Ear’ is often caused by growth of bacteria in the ear plus ear wax which stops the clearing of water from the ear. The moist, warm, dark conditions in the ear cause fast growth of many organisms—exactly the kinds of conditions ear candling often treat effectively.”

Structural Integration is a scientifically validated method of restructuring the body through movement and touch, and ion detoxification all have health benefits—often profound.
