Diabetes and Colonics – Exploring the Connection

A clean colon and effective management of diabetes go hand-in-hand, in the view of Darlene Holloway, founder of the Alternative Health Center of Cary. She is noted for her expertise in colon hydrotherapy, is licensed in Florida as a colon hydrotherapy expert (North Carolina has no licensing law), and now serves as president of the North Carolina Colon Hydrotherapy Safety Association.

“Many doctors now recommend colon hydrotherapy for their diabetic patients,” notes Ms. Holloway, “often as a first step in treatment. Type 2 diabetics are often prescribed one or two medications to control the processing of insulin. A healthy diet and a regular exercise program are of great importance in managing diabetes, and it’s vital to ensure that the colon is clean and functioning well. Colon cleaning helps the digestive process and the absorption of nutrients, of significant value in managing diabetes.”

Colon hydrotherapy is the safe, gentle infusion of warm filtered water into the rectum using no chemicals or drugs. It is a restorative procedure which is both relaxing and effective—an extended and more complete form of an enema. “Colon hydrotherapy extends beyond the rectum to cleanse the entire large intestine,” she points out.

Ms. Holloway has spent her professional life demonstrating that a healthy colon is essential to a healthy body. “Conventional diets comprised of refined, processed foods, high in saturated fats and low in fiber, contribute to many problems associated with the large intestine,” she notes, “such as diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, gallstones, kidney stones, and more.

“The elimination of undigested food material and other waste products is as important as the digestion and assimilation of foodstuffs. Waste material allowed to remain stagnant in the colon results in decomposition of these substances and increases bacteria and toxins.”

The colon, she notes, “contains the largest concentration of bacteria in the body. Waste material allowed to stagnate alters the proportion of healthy bacteria to disease-producing bacteria, increasing the potential for disease. The purpose of the colon is to remove this waste material by mass muscular contraction called peristalsis. Effects of a stagnant colon may include halitosis, skin blemishes, headaches, low back pain, and lack of energy.

“Experts tell us that better than 85 percent of all cancers are caused by environmental pollutants,” Ms. Holloway notes. “Without a nutritionally rich diet that nourishes and assists in the removal of these substances from the body, over time we lose strength and vitality. Immune systems become suppressed, with dire consequences— sometimes including manifestations of cancer.

“Perhaps even more important, colon hydrotherapy is a simple, inexpensive, and remarkably effective way to prevent cancer and a host of other disease conditions. During a colonic, toxic material is broken down and flushed away so it can no longer harm the body or inhibit assimilation and elimination. Through massage, the skilled colon therapist is able to work loose and eliminate toxic waste. When the colon is cleansed and healed, the wellness of the whole body is greatly enhanced.”
