Many Arrows in Her Quiver Support Detoxification
Dr. Darlene Holloway, a naturopath and founder of the Alternative Health Center of Cary, views the human body through many lenses.
Dozens of patients come to her and her therapist colleagues for ion detoxification, colon hydrotherapy, sports massage, lymphatic drainage, deep tissue massage, reflexology, structural integration, biofeedback, and pregnancy, infant, and Swedish/therapeutic massage.
Recently she introduced Essana products and procedures into her practice, including an exotic body wrap protocol, “to provide optimal nourishment for the skin, inside and out.” And in this culture where two-thirds of adults are overweight or obese, Dr. Holloway also offers the hCG diet. “We’ve had clients who have lost 100 pounds,” she notes.
Many Healing Options
While she has many healing arrows in her quiver when Dr. Holloway works with a patient, her first and foremost concern is the challenge of safely and quickly removing toxic waste from their bodies.
Her focused expertise in the use of colon hydrotherapy to cleanse the human system is widely recognized. In 2009, she was named Colon Therapist of the Year by the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy, the specialty’s highest honor.
Colon hydrotherapy “is the safe, gentle infusion of warm, filtered water into the rectum using no chemicals or drugs,” she explains. “It is a restorative procedure that is both relaxing and effective—an extended and more complete form of an enema. Colon hydrotherapy extends beyond the rectum to cleanse the entire large intestine.”
She has spent her professional life, over three decades, demonstrating that a healthy colon is essential to a healthy body. “Conventional diets comprised of refined, processed foods, high in saturated fats and low in fiber, contribute to many problems associated with the large intestine,” she notes. “The elimination of undigested food material and other waste products is as important as the digestion and assimilation of foodstuffs. Waste material allowed to remain stagnant in the colon results in decomposition of these substances and increases bacteria and toxins.”
The colon, she notes, “contains the largest concentration of bacteria in the body. Waste material allowed to stagnate alters the proportion of healthy bacteria to disease-producing bacteria, increasing the potential for disease. The purpose of the colon is to remove this waste material by mass muscular contraction called peristalsis.
“Colon hydrotherapy provides therapeutic improvement of muscular tone, facilitating peristalis and benefiting the sluggish colon. Effects of a stagnant colon may include constipation, halitosis, skin blemishes, headaches, low back pain, and lack of energy.”
Colonics also contribute to weight loss. “Colon hydrotherapy itself does not reduce weight,” she emphasizes, “but it’s not unusual for patients to tell me they’ve lost as much as 10 pounds after a few cleansing sessions. This weight loss is not the removal of fat, it’s the removal of previously encrusted fecal matter.
“Colon hydrotherapy is especially recommended for patients undergoing treatment for cancer; it can be very helpful in relieving the effects of chemotherapy, for example.” And colon hydrotherapy is often recommended for people who are preparing for colonoscopies, as well.
“Good health is as much a function of our elimination status as the quality of food we ingest,” Dr. Holloway points out. “Periodic cleansing of the colon can prevent stagnation and minimize the exposure of potential cancer-causing agents to the colon wall. Colon hydrotherapy has a dissolving and therapeutic effect on the large intestine, resulting in a cleaner, healthier colon and improved overall health status.”
